Main Sewer Connection in Headbourne Worthy, Hampshire

The Project

Alton Facility Services completed a main sewer connection project in Headbourne Worthy, Hampshire. The works included a new drain run through the garden, connection to the main sewer, pipe lining and decommissioning of the old septic tank.

The Challenge

The property required a new drainage connection from the existing system to the main sewer. This involved excavation through the garden, working under a wall and connecting into the existing main sewer position.

The old septic tank also needed to be emptied, infilled and made good once the new connection was completed.

The Solution

• Attended site with the required labour and plant.
• Root cut and lined the pipe from the last manhole in the patio towards the septic tank.
• Excavated approximately 30 metres through the garden and under the wall.
• Installed new drainage pipework and connected onto the main sewer in the garden.
• Backfilled the trench and made good disturbed areas.
• Emptied, infilled and made good the old septic tank.

The Result

The main sewer connection was completed in line with the quoted works. The property was connected to the main sewer and the redundant septic tank was decommissioned.

This case study demonstrates the planning and groundworks required when replacing an off-mains drainage arrangement with a main sewer connection.
