Pump installation designed around the duty

A reliable installation starts by confirming what must be pumped, the required flow and head, the system controls and how the equipment will be accessed for maintenance.

AFS installs new and replacement pump systems for homes, commercial properties, managed estates and developments across Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex and surrounding areas.

Our scope can include site assessment, pump-duty review, removal of obsolete equipment, mechanical installation, associated valves and pipework, controls coordination, operational testing and commissioning.

The agreed equipment is installed, connected, tested and handed over with practical operating and maintenance advice.

Correct pump selection before installation

Replacing a pump only by matching the old model can repeat an existing sizing or system problem.

Pump selection should consider the required flow, static and friction head, liquid type, solids handling, run frequency, available power, controls, redundancy and the pipework connected to the system.

Where the existing pump has failed repeatedly, the wider system should be reviewed for blocked pipework, unsuitable duty, poor control settings, restricted valves, dry running, excessive starts or installation defects.

Installation, controls and commissioning

A pump is only one part of the operating system.

Valves, pipework, level or pressure controls, electrical protection, alarms and the discharge route must work together. Installation also needs safe isolation and access for future servicing.

Commissioning checks depend on the system but may include start and stop levels, pressure settings, duty changeover, valve operation, alarm testing, leaks, noise, vibration and confirmation that the pump is operating within the intended arrangement.

A package pump station installation in Kingston upon Thames

AFS excavated and installed a new 2 x 1 pump chamber with two 230v sewage-rated pumps, connected with 2 inch pipework and valves. The existing drains were connected into the chamber and the chamber onto the existing discharge pipework, then the control panel and float switches were fitted. The old tank was infilled and surplus spoil removed.

Do you install both new and replacement pumps?

Yes. AFS installs pumps for new systems and replaces failed, obsolete or unsuitable equipment after reviewing the required duty and existing arrangement.

Can you replace a pump with a different model?

Yes, where appropriate. The replacement should be selected against the required flow, head, liquid, pipework, electrical supply and controls rather than physical size alone.

Does installation include controls and alarms?

It can. The quotation will state whether controls, floats or probes, alarms, valves, pipework, electrical coordination and commissioning are included.
