The challenge

A piece of heavy industrial machinery in Uckfield required attention after its existing oil pump failed. The failure was traced to the seals, which were not suitably rated for use with oil.

What we did

Engineer Tom attended the site in Uckfield to diagnose the issue. The solution involved the installation of a new oil pump designed to handle the specific requirements of the machinery.

The result

The new pump was installed, allowing the 200-ton hot press to return to operation. This job highlights the range of work undertaken by AFS engineers, which extends from domestic pumping systems to heavy-duty industrial equipment.

Checking the whole pump system

The update “Oil pump replacement on heavy machinery in Uckfield” shows why pump faults need a system-level check. A pump can run continuously because of pressure loss, a control fault, a failed non-return valve or a problem with the vessel.

Replacing the pump without checking the controls and pipework can leave the original cause unresolved. AFS tests the relevant components and explains which repair is justified.

Where a replacement is needed, the duty point, flow, head and operating conditions should be confirmed before a new pump is selected.

If you have a similar issue, send the postcode, a short description and any useful photos to AFS. We can then confirm whether a site visit, survey, service appointment or written quotation is the right next step.
