Klargester BioDisc Component Repair in Shepperton

The Challenge

Mike attended a site in Shepperton where the customer's Klargester BioDisc sewage treatment plant required attention. The system had accumulated significant sludge, and the mechanical drive components were no longer functioning correctly.

The initial task was to clear the tank of waste. A tanker removed approximately 4,000 litres of material from the plant. This extensive desludge was necessary to provide safe access to the internal mechanisms and prepare the system for repair.

What We Did

Once the tank had been emptied and access was clear, Mike inspected the drive assembly. The motor, gearbox and bearing that rotate the BioDisc disc were removed from the site.

Rather than attempting a major repair in difficult conditions on location, the equipment was transported back to the AFS workshop. This allows for proper testing and replacement of parts in a controlled environment.

The Result

In the workshop, the gearbox will be worked on properly. A new motor will be fitted to the unit and tested before the complete assembly is returned to Shepperton.

Once the repaired drive unit is refitted at the property, the system can be recommissioned. This approach ensures that the mechanical components are restored to full working order.

Why Workshop Repair Matters

A Klargester BioDisc is a sewage treatment plant that uses a slowly turning disc to aerate wastewater. The motor, gearbox and bearing are critical components that drive this rotor. Over time, these parts can wear out or fail due to the harsh environment inside the tank.

When a BioDisc fails, it stops aerating the waste, which can lead to poor treatment quality and blockages. While minor issues can sometimes be fixed on site, major repairs often require removal of the equipment. AFS can remove the motor, gearbox and bearing, bring them back to our workshop, repair or replace the components, test the unit, and then return to reinstall it.

Keeping wastewater systems reliable

The update “Klargester BioDisc Component Repair in Shepperton” relates to systems that depend on regular checks and suitable operating conditions. Alarms, odours and poor discharge can have mechanical, biological or drainage causes.

AFS can assess the plant, pumps, blowers, controls and drainage connections. We then explain whether servicing, emptying, repair or replacement is the sensible next step.

Regular maintenance is particularly important where a failure could interrupt a business, affect residents or create a pollution risk.

If you have a similar issue, send the postcode, a short description and any useful photos to AFS. We can then confirm whether a site visit, survey, service appointment or written quotation is the right next step.
