Our engineers, Mike and Fin, recently attended a site in Ascot to investigate issues affecting three wells and assess the condition of the associated pumps.
The Problem
The customer required all three wells to be checked to establish whether the pumps were operating correctly and identify any faults that could be affecting performance.
Access was possible to two of the three wells, allowing our engineers to carry out further investigation and assess the condition of the pumping equipment.
Our Investigation
Mike and Fin inspected the accessible wells and stripped down one of the pumps to establish the cause of the fault.
During the investigation, they identified that the capacitor had blown and the pump seals had failed. Based on the condition of the equipment, both accessible wells were found to require new replacement pumps.
The third well presented a different challenge. Due to its depth and access arrangement, our engineers determined that removing the existing trap would create a risk of being unable to reset it correctly afterwards.
Rather than potentially creating an additional problem, the team advised the customer accordingly and provided clear recommendations on how to proceed.
The Outcome
Following the inspection, the customer was given a clear understanding of the condition of the system and the work required:
Two wells require replacement pumps
A blown capacitor and failed seals were identified during strip-down
The third well could not be safely accessed without risking further complications
Clear recommendations were provided for the next stage of works
This visit demonstrates the importance of thorough pump fault-finding. While some faults may initially appear to be relatively minor, internal component failure can often point towards a wider deterioration of the pump.
