Alton Facility Services was called to a site near Liphook after a serious drainage issue caused multiple pump chambers to fail.
Following an urgent investigation, our engineers identified an incorrectly installed valve within the rising main. The valve had created a blockage in the system, causing wastewater to back up and leading to the failure of four pump chambers across the site.
With the drainage network unable to operate correctly and a nearby river potentially at risk, immediate action was required to prevent the situation from escalating into a wider environmental incident.

The blockage within the rising main was affecting several areas of the site and placing increasing pressure on the wastewater system.

Once the rising main had been exposed, the team located the incorrectly installed valve and confirmed it was responsible for the blockage. The pipework was then corrected, allowing wastewater to flow through the system normally.
The pump chambers were inspected and returned to operation, restoring the site’s drainage infrastructure and removing the immediate environmental risk.

Thanks to the team’s fast response, technical expertise and coordinated approach, the issue was resolved before it developed into a more serious incident.
